Uppsala & Sigtuna – Viking Heritage
Day 1: Arrive in Stockholm
Your Swedish adventure begins, and your private tour guide will collect you from the airport or your accommodation to ensure a seamless start to the day. Head straight to Gamla Stan, one of our favorite parts of Stockholm! Gamla Stan is the old town of the city, and in our opinion, one of the most enchanting districts in Europe! It’s the oldest part of the city, and this is where your tour begins: walking through cobbled streets and colorful buildings on your way to a guided tour of the Royal Palace, the official residence of the Swedish royal family.
In the afternoon, visit Stockholm Cathedral, the site of royal events for centuries and renowned for its stunning Gothic and Baroque architecture. Next is the Nobel Prize Museum, where you can see fascinating exhibits dedicated to some of the most important figures in history.
Enjoy a traditional Swedish dinner and some free time to see what the vibrant city is like at night. Our tour guides can recommend some authentic Swedish restaurants and bars so you can avoid the tourist traps and feel like a true Swede. If necessary, we can make dinner reservations on your behalf, or you are welcome to explore on your own and find somewhere to eat.
Day 2: Stockholm’s Cultural Attractions
Your 2nd day will be spent on Stockholm’s Djurgården Island, a tranquil island where you will visit some of the top museums in the city. Start with a guided tour of the Vasa Museum, renowned for featuring the world’s best-preserved 17th-century ship that sank on its maiden voyage. Spend the rest of the morning enjoying the lush scenery in Djurgården, from green spaces, oak forests, and waterfront paths.
In the afternoon, take a journey into Sweden’s past at the Skansen Open Air Museum, designed to show what Sweden was like before industrialization. See traditional Swedish houses from various provinces and outlets from the 19th century, such as bakeries, shoemakers, and many more.
Your final museum is dedicated to one of the most popular music bands in history, as you enjoy a guided tour of the ABBA museum. See original outfits and personal items from the band, walk through life-sized sets, and learn all about the Swedish pop group.
Day 3: Uppsala & Sigtuna
Enjoy a day in the Swedish countryside for your 3rd day as you embark on a historic day trip to Uppsala and Sigtuna.
Start your day with a scenic drive through the Swedish countryside to Sigtuna, Sweden’s oldest town. Explore the town’s cobbled streets with colorful houses. Your Viking experience begins with the historic rune stones, large rocks with writings carved into them from the Viking Age. The carvings tell the stories of Viking warriors, how they died, and a glimpse into Viking family life.
Enjoy a traditional Swedish coffee or a glass of wine on the edge of Lake Mälaren before moving on to the university city of Uppsala.
Enjoy a guided tour of Uppsala Cathedral, the largest church in Scandinavia, known for its stunning Gothic architecture and burial site of Swedish royalty.
Head to Gustavianum Museum, once the main building of Uppsala University. See the eerie 17th-century theater where doctors once performed public dissections. From the theater, head to the Viking exhibit, where you’ll find ancient Viking artifacts from the local area.
Spend the evening in Uppsala, where you’re free to explore the city as you see fit, or your driver guide can make some recommendations for dinner and evening activities.
Day 4: Örebro Castle and Tividen National Park
Your 4th day will start in Uppsala and finish in Gothenburg, visiting notable attractions along the way. Your first stop will be the town of Örebro, perched along the Svartån River. It’s also an excellent spot for photos, with the castle built around the town river. Stop for a coffee and pastry at one of Örebro’s local cafes before continuing your journey to Gothenburg.
Enjoy the natural beauty of Tividen National Park as you stop here for a hike with your driver guide. The park is renowned for its hiking trails that connect to stunning viewpoints. There are both shorter and longer hiking trails available, so you will never need to walk for longer than you feel comfortable. Your guide will lead you to the park’s hidden lakes, where you can cool off with a swim surrounded by the beautiful forest.
If you’re starting to get peckish, your driver guide can find somewhere for a quick stop, and then you’ll continue the scenic drive to Gothenburg, Sweden’s 2nd biggest city. Enjoy a traditional Swedish dinner in Gothenburg, where you can reflect on an action-filled 4th day.

You’ll then head to the nearby neighborhood of Gamla Väster before finishing at the Turning Torso, the tallest building in Scandinavia.
Enjoy a final dinner on the tour as you spend the night in Malmö ahead of the last day of the tour.
Day 7: Day Trip to Copenhagen
The 7th day of your tour can be tailored, depending on the time of your flight home and whether you are flying from Copenhagen or Malmö. We would recommend taking a trip across the Danish border into Copenhagen. Drive across the iconic Öresund Bridge that connects Sweden to Denmark. Begin at Nyhavn Harbor, the most photographed spot in Denmark. Walk along the harbor as your private guide tells you about its history and the famous people who lived here.
Enjoy a guided tour of Amalienborg Palace, the official residence of the Danish monarch. If time permits, your guide can take you on the short drive to the famous Little Mermaid statue.
Our guide can then take you to Copenhagen airport for your flight home. If you are flying from Malmö, we can either tailor the day to see some final attractions in Malmö, or we can return from Copenhagen at an earlier time.
