The first 2 days of your tour will be spent in Stockholm, the capital city of Sweden. Your private driver guide will be on hand to collect you from the airport or your accommodation in a luxury, spacious vehicle. Your guide will help you with luggage, and we can arrange for your vehicle to be equipped with car booster seats if necessary.

Spend some time in Gamla Stan, the oldest part of the city. You’ll feel like you’ve entered one of your children’s books as you walk through the fairytale-like cobbled streets in the district. Head to the Royal Palace to watch the Changing of the Guard, a spectacle featuring soldiers, military bands, and horse-mounted units, and the guards undergo a formal handover of duties to the incoming guards. If it interests the entire family, we can arrange for a guided tour of the inside of the palace, where you can visit the lavish state rooms and see how royalty lives.

Your private guide will take you to Djurgården Island, a scenic part of the city with lush greenery and several family-friendly activities. Start at the Jujnibacken Museum, bringing Swedish children’s literature to life. Kids ride the magical storybook train, watch a family-friendly theatre show, and play in interactive exhibitions.

Next up is the Skansen Open Air Museum and Nordic Zoo. The museum features a recreated 19th-century village, where you can explore over 150 preserved houses and shops. Head to the Nordic Zoo to see native animals such as moose, brown bears, and reindeer. There’s also a petting zoo where you can get pony rides and see rabbits, goats, and more!

A short drive from Skansen is the Vasa museum, which has a fully intact 17th-century warship that sank on its maiden voyage. It features interactive exhibits and an activity booklet for children to follow throughout the tour.

Finish with the Gröna Lund amusement park, with family-friendly rides, carnival games, and more thrilling rides for older children. It’s the perfect way to finish off your time in Stockholm.

Day 3: Kolmården

On your 3rd day, enjoy a scenic drive with your private guide to Kolmården Wildlife Park, one of Europe’s top family attractions.

The park is set on the hills above Bråviken Bay and includes zoo enclosures, safari experiences, live shows, thrill rides, and playgrounds, making it a thrilling day for children and adults alike. Some of the most popular attractions at the park include:

  • Safari Gondola – Travel in an enclosed cable car to see lions, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and bears from the air.
  • Dolphin Show: Educational and entertaining, the dolphin presentation combines music, storytelling, and impressive acrobatics.
  • Tiger World: Get close (safely) to majestic Siberian tigers in a designed enclosure with glass viewing areas.
  • Marine World – An aquatic-themed section with sea lions, playful seals, and splash zones.

Bamses Värld (Bamse’s World) – Based on Sweden’s most beloved cartoon bear, this area is perfect for younger kids and includes gentle rides, playgrounds, and character meet-and-greets.

After a day at the park, your private guide will drop you off at your nearby hotel, where you can unwind before your 4th day.

Day 4: Linköping

Your 4th day begins with a trip to the Swedish Air Force Museum in Linköping, where the entire family can enjoy real aircraft displays, interactive hangars, and a mysterious UFO room.

Your private guide will find a suitable restaurant for lunch, and then your next attraction is the Gamla Linköping Open Air Museum, located just outside the city center. The museum is a reconstructed 19th-century town featuring historic homes, working craftspeople, a mini zoo, and a discovery area where kids can dress up in clothes from that period. You’ll also be able to speak to artisans in costume to understand what life was like then and the traditional skills essential to everyday life.

A short drive to Berg Locks on the Göta Canal is a great activity before dinner. You can walk along the canal, rent pedal boats, or just enjoy a coffee or ice cream by the water. Your private guide will then take you to your hotel to relax for the evening.

Day 5: Jönköping

Take a scenic drive to Jönköping, a picturesque city by Lake Vättern, the second-largest lake in Sweden. Stop along the way in Gränna, a quaint lakeside town famous for its red-and-white polkagris (traditional peppermint rock candy). Kids can watch the sweets made from scratch in old-fashioned candy shops and try a few flavors before continuing your journey.

Visit Tropikhuset Jönköping, a tropical animal adventure where you can see snakes, monkeys, turtles, and lizards. You can explore rainforest-themed environments and have interactive feeding sessions throughout the day.

In the afternoon, head to Vätterstranden, a sandy beach where you can relax for the rest of the day. Swim in the sea, build sand castles, or sunbathe the afternoon away until dinner.

Days 6-7: Gothenburg

Gothenburg Archipelago, Sweden

Spend the next 2 days in Gothenburg, the 2nd largest city in Sweden. As you approach your hotel, your private guide will introduce you to the city, driving past landmarks such as the Opera House, Avenyn, Götaplatsen, and Feskekôrka (Fish Church). Spend the afternoon at Liseberg Amusement Park, arguably Sweden’s most beloved amusement park! It’s right in the city center and suitable for all ages, with children’s rides, thrilling rollercoasters, indoor soft play, and a live entertainment show. Your guide will provide skip-the-line passes, giving you more time to get the most out of the park. The beauty of private tours is that we can adapt the itinerary, so you could even come back here the next day if you love it as much as we think!

Visit Universeum, Scandinavia’s largest science center. The museum features a tropical rainforest zone, an aquarium, and a robotics lab, to name a few. It’s both educational and entertaining, making it a great family activity.

Enjoy a boat tour through Gothenburg’s network of canals and harbors. Your private guide will tell you fun facts about the city’s maritime history as you duck under low bridges and pass historic neighborhoods.

Finish your 2nd day in Gothenburg in Haga, where you can explore the old town and try the “Hagabullen,” an enormous cinnamon bun renowned in Gothenburg.

Days 8-10: Malmö, Copenhagen & Skåne Countryside

On Day 8, you’ll travel from Gothenburg to Malmö, where you’ll stay for the next 3 nights. On your way to Malmö, stop halfway in Helsingborg, a charming coastal city. Your guide will take you to Kärnan Tower, a medieval fortress where kids can climb for panoramic views of the entire city.

You’ll arrive in Malmö late afternoon and spend the rest of the day exploring the city. Start with a trip to Turning Torso, Sweden’s tallest building. Before dinner, head to Västra Hamnen, a seaside district with playgrounds and scenic boardwalks.

On your 9th day, you’ll cross the border into Denmark to visit the capital city, Copenhagen. Some activities will include:

  • Tivoli Gardens – One of the world’s oldest amusement parks, featuring gentle rides, thrilling roller coasters, and daily parades
  • Experimentarium – Modern science center with 3000 interactive exhibits, a water zone, and digital play zones.
  • National Museum of Denmark: Dress up like a Viking, play with medieval toys, and discover ancient fossils.

You’ll be back in Malmö in the late afternoon, where you can see the last remaining attractions you didn’t see the day before.

On day 10, embark on a day trip from Malmö through the Skåne countryside to the Österlen region, renowned for its beaches and Viking sites.

Stop for a walk up one of Sweden’s most mysterious ancient sites, the Ale’s Stones. Explore the Viking-like ship on top of a cliff with views of the Baltic Sea. Your guide will tell you Viking stories and burial traditions as you explore the site, which is thought to be at least 1,000 years old!

Next is Österlenchoklad (Chocolate Factory), where you can learn the chocolate-making process and try some unique samples, with plenty of chocolate available to take home with you!

Finish the day at Sandhammaren beach, where you can enjoy your chocolate, swim in the sea, or relax with beautiful coastal views. You’ll return to Malmö, where you can relax ahead of your final night in Sweden’s 3rd largest city.

Day 11: Växjö

On your penultimate day, take the journey inland to Växjö, known for its vast forests and crystal clear lakes. Stop along the way at the IKEA Museum in Älmhult, the hometown of IKEA. It features a kids’ section with games and “build your own room” models, and of course, it’s a great opportunity to try the famous IKEA meatballs! Arrive in Växjö and check into your hotel before heading out for lunch and continuing your itinerary.

Next is Kosta Boda Glassworks, where you can watch skilled glassblowers at work and even have the chance to blow your own glass ornament. Next to Kosta Boda is a must-visit candy shop, where you can stock up on supplies, and if you want, you can spend some time in the playground nearby.

When you return to Växjö, visit the fairytale-like Teleborg Castle, set in a serene forest with ivy-covered turrets and open lawns for play and photos.

Day 12: Stockholm

Your 12th day can be tailored depending on where you want the tour to finish. For this itinerary, the tour ends in Stockholm, where it began. You have the option to return to Gränna, where you previously visited the candy-making store. Otherwise, you’ll continue to Stockholm, arriving around the afternoon. If time remains, you can visit some last-minute museums or return to some of the sites you liked from the start of your tour.
