Here’s how your 14-day private tour of Sweden could look:
Days 1-2: Best of Stockholm
You’ll spend the first 2 days of your tour in Sweden’s capital, Stockholm, a unique city built across 14 islands. Start in Gamla Stan, the old town of the city. Your private guide will take you through the enchanting district, telling you about the history of Stockholm while you admire the cobbled streets. You’ll have some free time to explore the old town before a guided tour of the Royal Palace and the Nobel Prize Museum.
On your 2nd day, you’ll embark on a luxury cruise of the Stockholm Archipelago. You’ll stop for lunch on an idyllic island such as Vaxholm, where you can also walk the harbor and swim in the Baltic Sea! You’ll also stop at Grinda, where you can visit sandy beaches and enjoy stunning hiking trails with coastal views.
Day 3: Mariefred & Örebro
You’ll depart Stockholm on your 3rd day and head to Mariefred, where you’ll explore the town before a guided tour of the Renaissance 16th-century Gripsholm Castle. The castle also features some stunning art as part of the Swedish National Portrait Collection.
Carry on to Örebro, where you’ll visit your 2nd castle of the day at Örebro Castle on the Svartån River. Explore Stortorget, the city’s main square, where you can enjoy a quiet drink before dinner or shop for souvenirs.
Day 4: Karlstad
Travel to Karlstad on day 4, passing through the Swedish countryside along the way. Kick off your time here with a walk through Sandgrundsparken and Mariebergsskogen, a beautiful green space that blends parkland, an open-air museum, and a peaceful boardwalk along the lake. You’ll then visit the Sandgrund Lars Lerin Museum, dedicated to the beloved Swedish artist, and the Värmlands Museum, featuring regional art and Viking artifacts.
Depending on your preferences, you’ll spend the night in either a boutique lakeside hotel or a historic inn based in the city centre.
Days 5-6: Gothenburg
For days 5-6, you’ll see the best sights in Gothenburg, the 2nd biggest city in Sweden. On the journey from Karlstad, you’ll stop in Trollhättan, a small town famous for its Trollhättan Canal and Locks.
After checking in to your Gothenburg hotel, your tour will start in Haga, the city’s oldest district. You’ll have free time to explore cobblestone streets and cozy cafes before dinner. Gothenburg is renowned for being a seafood capital, so you have the choice to dine at one of the city’s waterfront restaurants, but our tour planners will make sure to find somewhere you are happy with.
For your 6th day, explore the city’s best attractions, starting at the Gothenburg Museum of Art, where you’ll find works by artists such as Zorn and Picasso. After the museum, your guide will take you to the Botanical Gardens, which welcome 630,000 plant lovers annually! Finish your day in Kungsgatan, visiting design boutiques before your guide takes you back to the hotel to freshen up before dinner. As this will be your last night in Gothenburg, we can reserve a Michelin-starred restaurant to make the occasion memorable, or if you’d rather, we can reserve a contemporary bistro.
Day 7: Jönköping
Enjoy a scenic drive to Jönköping, where you’ll start with a guided tour of the Matchstick Museum, located in a preserved matchstick from the 19th century. You’ll then take the short drive to Gränna, renowned for its handmade candy canes. Watch candy being made by hand and enjoy it as you walk along the harbor overlooking Lake Vättern. Head back to Jönköping, where you can walk through one of the city’s urban parks before dinner.
Day 8: Vadstena & Linköping
Set off north along the scenic eastern shore of Lake Vättern toward the picturesque town of Vadstena. Visit the impressive Vadstena Castle, built by King Gustav Vasa in the 1500s. Finish your time in Vadstena with a trip to Vadstena Klosterkyrka (Abbey Church), a pilgrimage site connected to St Bridget of Sweden.
In the afternoon, arrive in the vibrant university city of Linköping, starting with a trip to Linköping Cathedral, one of Sweden’s finest Gothic churches. Next is a tour of Gamla Linköping, an open-air museum where streets are lined with 18th and 19th-century wooden buildings, reflecting Swedish rural life from this time. Visit one last museum before dinner at the Swedish Air Force Museum, a must-visit for anyone interested in aviation or Cold War history.
Day 9: Trosa
On day 9, you’ll head to the coastal town of Trosa, a popular vacation destination for Swedes, with the storybook town offering breathtaking views of the Baltic Sea. When you arrive, walk through the historic town center, with free time to explore its art galleries, cafes, or shops for local crafts.
In the afternoon, choose between walking through a town’s pine forests or coastal beaches. You’ll then head back to the town as dinner approaches, and your private guide can take you to a waterfront bar where you can enjoy locally brewed beer or cider.
Day 11: Norrtälje to Uppsala
You’ll set off on day 11 for a scenic drive to Uppsala, a historic city steeped in Viking heritage, and you’ll start north of the city in Gamla Uppsala. Visit the 3 massive royal mounds, which are believed to be the burial sites of semi-mythical kings from the 6th century. You can climb the mounds for panoramic city views, which you will explore later! Next to the mounds is the Gamla Uppsala Museum, where you can see exhibits on Vikings and Iron Age life.
Your private guide will take you to the largest church in Scanidavia, also the seat of the Archbishop of the Church of Sweden, Uppsala Cathedral. Admire the Gothic architecture, stunning stained glass windows, and vaulted ceilings. You can also see some historic tombs and memorials, such as King Vasa, the founder of modern Sweden, and Carl Linnaeus, the world-famous botanist.

Your private guide will lead you to these runestones, which are carved messages in stone. These messages are from the Viking era and feature messages dedicated to people who died and battles they fought in.
Your next attraction is the 11th-century St. Olaf’s Church Ruins, where you can admire the thick stone walls and large arched windows before a peaceful walk through the graveyard. Your private guide will tell you about St. Olaf and the history behind the ancient church.
Your time in Sigtuna will end with a lakeside walk along Sigtuna Harbor, where you’ll see small boats along the docks, and as you leave the harbor behind, you’ll see stunning views of Lake Mälaren.
You’ll arrive in Stockholm in the late afternoon with free time to explore the city or freshen up in your accommodation before dinner.
Days 13-14: Stockholm
The final 2 days of your tour will be spent back in the capital city of Stockholm, where you’ll see a few final attractions you didn’t get around to at the start of your tour.
Spend a day on Djurgården Island, a picturesque island filled with greenery and where the city’s most famous museums are situated. You can visit the ABBA Museum and learn all about the pop bands from the streets of Stockholm to global sensations. The VASA Museum features a fully intact 17th-century ship that sank on its maiden voyage in 1628. There’s also the Skansen Museum, where you can explore Sweden’s past in a complete replica of a 19th-century town. It’s a surreal experience, making you feel like you’ve gone back in time. Your guide can take you to all 3 of these museums before driving you back to your hotel, or to one of Stockholm’s exclusive restaurants for dinner.
On your final day, your guide will be on hand to take you to the airport for your flight home and can tailor your remaining time to suit you. If you are feeling quite tired after a long tour, you can spend the last few hours simply relaxing, maybe enjoying fika in Gamla Stan, or revisiting a certain restaurant you liked for lunch. The final few hours are for you to enjoy Stockholm as you see fit.
